On November 15, TriForum and the Asiatic Research Institute at Korea University co-hosted '2024 Seoul Symposium' under the theme "The Global Order post the U.S. Presidential Election: Perspectives from the U.S., Japan and Korea." The symposium convened top foreign policy and national security experts, Amb. Joseph Yun, former U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy; Hon. Allison Hooker, former White House NSC Senior Director for Asian Affairs; and Hon. Anthony Ruggiero, former White House NSC Senior Director for Counterproliferation and Biodefense, to strengthen the trilateral public-private cooperation network and analyze the shifting Indo-Pacific security landscape.  

A key highlight of the dialogue was Amb. Joseph Yun’s pragmatic assessment of Pyongyang, noting that CVID is no longer a valid concept and emphasizing that future negotiations must pivot to reflect North Korea's current realities. During the subsequent panel, Hon. Allison Hooker noted that the deepening Russia-North Korea alignment and Pyongyang’s advanced capabilities have fundamentally altered the strategic environment, diminishing U.S. leverage. Addressing these shifts, the symposium diagnosed critical global challenges across economic security, trade, and tech competition. Notably, TriForum advisors Joseph Yun and Allison Hooker, who participated in the event, subsequently went on to serve as the interim U.S. Ambassador to South Korea and the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, respectively.
